Tom Gabey wins Mens 5 Overall at 2014 US Nationals

Georgia’s own Tom Gabey has returned to the water with a bang… winning the Mens 5 National Overall Championships at the 2014 Barefoot Nationals at the Blue Moo in Alma Center, Wisconsin.

After six years off the water,  Tom began training eight weeks before the 2014 Southern Regionals. At Nationals, Tom dominated the Mens 5 field in jumping placing first with 10.8. He placed 3rd in in tricks with 1450 and 5th in slalom with an 8.7.  He won the overall  by 49 points beating a field of 11 skiers in the second largest mens division. The margin of victory was 1.64% proving the point “don’t stop tricking till the boat stops.”
Tom lost an overall national championship by 60 points in 2002 at Fergus Falls despite a national record for jump of 14.7 meters.   This is a great victory and first Overall National Championship for Tom who has been competing since 1994 and attended his first nationals in 1996.
